Stan Mack is a writer and cartoonist who
pioneered a documentary style of cartooning
with his notorious New York comic strip Stan
Macks Real Life Funnies, which ran in The
Village Voice for nearly 20 years. His Adweek
strip, Stan Macks Outtakes, covered the media
scene for a decade. He has used his trademark
style in several nonfiction books, including two
graphic histories, The Story of the Jews: A 4,000
Year Adventure and Stan Macks Real Life
American Revolution.
He is the co-author, with his
late partner Janet
Bode, of several hard-hitting, young adult non-
fiction books, Heartbreak and Roses, Hard Time,
and For Better, For Worse. His latest book, Janet
and Me, An Illustrated Story of Love and Loss,
published by Simon & Schuster in October 2004.
A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design,
Mack is the former art director of The New York
Times Sunday Magazine. He has also written and
illustrated a number of childrens picture books,
including the best-selling 10 Bears in My Bed.
