Stan Mack is a writer and cartoonist who
pioneered a documentary style of cartooning
with his notorious New York comic strip Stan
Mack’s Real Life Funnies
, which ran in The
Village Voice for nearly 20 years. His Adweek
strip, Stan Mack’s Outtakes, covered the media
scene for a decade. He has used his trademark
style in several nonfiction books, including two
graphic histories, The Story of the Jews: A 4,000
Year Adventure
and Stan Mack’s Real Life
American Revol
ution.

He is the co-author, with his late partner Janet
Bode, of several hard-hitting, young adult non-
fiction books, Heartbreak and Roses, Hard Time,
and For Better, For Worse. His latest book, Janet
and Me, An Illustrated Story of Love and Loss
,
published by Simon & Schuster in October 2004.

A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design,
Mack is the former art director of The New York
Times Sunday Magazine. He has also written and
illustrated a number of children’s picture books,
including the best-selling 10 Bears in My Bed.
